Nausea is a feeling of sickness in the stomach characterized by an urge to vomit. Almost everyone experiences nausea at some time, making it one of the most common problems in medicine. Nausea is not a disease, but a symptom of many different disorders.
Tips that help relieve nausea:
• Sip fluids throughout the day: Water is the best option but other fluids can be included such as fruit juices and flat soda or sports drink.
• Ginger: A centuries-old folk remedy, ginger, is widely used to treat nausea. Ginger helps settle down the stomach and relieves nausea.
• Lemon: A popular treatment for morning sickness, lemons, are great little nausea-blockers. Eat them in foods, suck on them, or just grab and sniff a cut up lemon wedge.
• Spring of mint: The refreshing aroma alone may be enough to make you feel better, but actually chewing on fresh mint or drinking a glass of mint tea is considered an effective remedy for nausea.
• Eat 6 to 8 small meals throughout the day, instead of 3 big meals.
• Eat bland foods: like crackers, muffins, toast, potatoes, noodles and rice.
• Eat Chilled foods: chef salads, sandwiches, popsicles, and sorbets seem to go down much easier than hot foods.
• Try out nuts: A lack of protein can make nausea feel even worse, so look to protein-packed foods, such as nuts.
• Use low fat dairy products.
• If you have a bad taste in your mouth, try rinsing with a solution of baking soda, salt, and warm water before you eat.
• Sit up after you eat. DO NOT lie down.
