Lifestyles changes for Atopic dermatitis

It is important to do a few lifestyle changes that can benefit your skin and help keep the eczema symptoms controlled.

Take shower smart:

If you have eczema, don’t take a hot shower or hot baths. Of course, the word ‘hot’ is relative; you might not think the water is hot, but if the whole bathroom steams up while you shower, you’ll need to temperature down.

Mild fragrance:

If you are suffering from a chronic skin condition then choose the right soap and avoid using antibacterial soaps as these can dry out your skin giving dried red patches.

Moisturization is necessary:

Moisturize, moisturize, and moisturize. As soon as you come out of the shower, pat dries your skin with a soft towel and then apply moisturizer to the entire body. always opt for fragrance-free mild body lotion.

Follow a healthy diet:

Diet plays an important role to keep your body healthy. Follow a healthy diet that includes fresh fruits, juices vegetables, and fiber to help individuals control their eczema condition.

  1. Eat an anti-inflammatory diet: eliminate known inflammatory foods like corn, soy, gluten, and dairy products. Focus on consuming foods high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory effects.
  2.  Eat a low histamine diet: unfortunately, a number of healthy foods that are excellent for their anti-inflammatory properties like fish, avocados, eggplant, spinach, tomatoes, bacon, or other dried and citrus fruits are high in histamine. This is a problem when your body is already releasing too much histamine.
  3.  Heal your gut and get your intestinal bacteria in good balance: When the cells of your intestinal wall are damaged, unwanted substances “leak” into the body, where they are attacked by the immune system, causing inflammation. In the case of eczema, the effects of overactive immune systems are seen in the skin. In order to reduce the effects of a leaky gut, remove the inflammatory foods and add good bacteria back into your gut, while cutting out any sugar, refined carbs, and processed foods to address any potential side effects of SIBO
Increase water consumption:

Try to include more fluids in your diet. Drink water to maintain the hydration of the skin as this can be beneficial to treat eczema. Increase water consumption as bacteria attacks make the skin lose its natural water.

Avoid scratching and rubbing:

Don’t rub or scratch the itchy skin patch as this can worsen the skin condition. An individual should limit themselves from coming in contact with allergens/triggers that irritates their skin or cause eczema.

Avoid stress:

Stress can trigger flares. So there are some ways to manage stress:

  • Counseling
  • Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Breathing exercises
  • 7-8 hours of sleep at night.
